Educating in sustainability: the project in which Coral Cotillo Beach and Colegio Tostón collaborate
May 12 2022
Fuerteventura
The Canarian hotel chain Coral Hotels, within the framework of its Green & Smart sustainability programme, will collaborate with CEIP Tostón's European Eramus+ Planet'Ecol project, which aims to instill in students the importance of caring for the environment.
This European project will allow CEIP Tostón students to exchange experiences with students from other parts of Europe in various meetings that include both virtual meetings and short-term exchange trips. In addition to the CEIP Tostón, five primary schools participate in this educational exchange: from France, the Mouguerre Bourg School in the French Basque Country, the Jaille school in Baie Mahau from Guadeloupe, the Desfina school from Greece, and the Giuseppe Lombardo school from Italy.
The four-star Coral Cotillo Beach hotel will actively collaborate with this project, offering its facilities to hold a training day where students will be able to learn first-hand about the sustainability policies applied by the hotel and which have helped it achieve international certifications, Travelife Gold and Biosphere. This visit will take place in June, during the program's second mobility exchange, in which the CEIP Tostón will be the host and will welcome the European students on their educational trip to El Cotillo.
At Coral Cotillo Beach, students will be able to see, among other things, the hotel's self-supply system, its photovoltaic panels, its recycling protocols and its ecological garden. The Young Cotillo Association will also participate in the program, giving educational workshops related to sustainability.
The director of the educational center, José Antonio González Colmenero, wanted to "thank the Hotel Coral Cotillo Beach for believing, betting and above all promoting the spirit of sustainability through actions like these". He also adds that "a group of CEIP Tostón students has just returned this weekend from their first exchange trip to France, where Coral Cotillo Beach has also collaborated by providing the necessary sweatshirts and merchandising material"
