Coral Hotels: Committed to Protecting the Canarian Biodiversity with "El Primer Viaje"

October 17 2023
Tenerife
Coral Hotels has teamed up with "El Primer Viaje" to preserve the remarkable biodiversity of the Canary Islands.

What is "El Primer Viaje"? This initiative safeguards the region's most iconic avian species, the Cory's Shearwater. It lives on the open seas and it only comes to the coast to breed in spring. During October and November, many Cory's shearwater broods, upon leaving the nests, on their first flight looking for the sea, are disoriented by the lights of the coastal developments. These birds, dazzled and on the ground, are not able to fly off on their own. In this situation they are vulnerable to being run over or being attacked. It's during this critical phase that our intervention becomes not just important but imperative.

We're delighted to announce that Coral Hotels, represented by its distinguished properties - Coral Suites and Spa, Coral California, Coral Ocean View, Coral Dreams, Coral Compostela Beach, Coral Los Alisios, Coral Compostela Beach Golf, and Coral Teide Mar, has joined hands with the "El Primer Viaje" initiative.

Our commitment to this noble endeavor encompasses two fundamental objectives:
First, we pledge to implement protective measures within our premises. This includes the careful reduction of outdoor lighting and the creation of protocols designed to facilitate the secure and prompt retrieval of fallen birds.
Furthermore, we're committed to orchestrating comprehensive awareness campaigns that will educate both our dedicated staff and cherished guests about the unique challenges faced by these remarkable species.
