English Environmental Impact Preservation of the Scopoli’s Shearwater: Our Commitment to Canary Isla

Environmental impact
At Coral Hotels, our dedication to sustainability goes beyond reducing emissions, managing waste, or optimizing resource use. We are taking an additional step toward conserving the biodiversity of our surroundings through our participation in El Primer Viaje, an initiative aimed at protecting the Scopoli’s shearwater (Calonectris diomedea borealis) and other seabirds in the Canary Islands.

The Scopoli’s Shearwater: A Treasure of the Canary Islands Every year, thousands of Scopoli’s shearwaters, the most abundant seabird species in the Canary Islands, arrive at our coasts to reproduce. These protected birds, listed in the Catalog of Canary Islands Protected Species, choose cliffs, ravines, and midlands for nesting.

Once fledglings are ready, they must embark on their first flight toward the sea, guided by the moon and stars. However, artificial lighting from the coasts disrupts their orientation, causing many to fall to the ground, where they face threats such as predation and accidents.

Coral Hotels’ Role in Conservation Coral Hotels actively contributes to seabird conservation through:

Reducing outdoor lighting.

Rescue protocols for birds that fall.

Awareness campaigns for employees and guests.

These efforts are implemented across all our establishments.

Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals Our actions align with broader commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating biodiversity conservation into our daily operations.

Join Our Mission Together, we can ensure the survival of the Scopoli’s shearwater in an increasingly threatened environment.

Beach Cleanup at Los Cristianos Caring for Our Home: Environmental Conservation and Marine Biodiversity

At Coral Hotels, our mission goes beyond offering unforgettable experiences; we are also committed to protecting the environment and preserving marine biodiversity.

We understand that coastal pollution is one of the greatest threats to species that depend on these ecosystems, such as the Scopoli’s shearwater, an iconic seabird.

Environmental Action: Beach Cleanup at El Callao On June 4, 2024, our dedicated Marketing and Purchasing team joined the beach cleanup initiative at El Callao in Arona, led by El Primer Viaje. This effort is part of our ongoing actions to reduce pollution and protect our coasts. During the day, we collected waste that harms not only the natural beauty of the surroundings but also its ecological balance.

Coral Hotels’ Commitment to Sustainability At Coral Hotels, we firmly believe that responsible tourism is the key to a sustainable future. That’s why we develop and support projects that generate a positive impact on our environment. From beach cleanup initiatives to environmental awareness programs, we aim to inspire both our collaborators and guests to take care of the planet.

Why is protecting the coasts important?

Coasts are home to rich marine biodiversity.

They help regulate the climate and protect nearby communities.

They are essential for endangered species, such as the Scopoli’s shearwater.

Join Our Mission We invite you to be part of our environmental activities and practice more responsible tourism. Together, we can make a difference and protect the environment for future generations.
